  1. Hopefully Mike/Kings Island can move quick and ask for the Skyride, so we could have one again. Would love to see that brought back.

  2. I hope they find a new home for that double decker carousel.

  3. Railblazer is probably a better fit at one of the smaller parks. Guess I need to get on Gold Striker before its gone.

  4. Re-read the report. They have the opportunity to lease for "up to" another 11 years. I give it 3 years and its closed. I would start looking at other park s getting rides from CGA.

  5. Agreed 100%! I too have rode this ride my entire life, and was startled by reading the above posts. If they ever did tear it down, whatever would go back there to replace it would never have that secluded feel that The Bat has, as you said.

  6. As expected, due to the weather, the park does have a decent crowd. Walking around the park, I think the wait times are probably 5-10min too high on the app right now for most rides, but an influx of FastLaners can easily cause the time shown to be accurate, so they sometimes account for that as well in the estimate.

  7. I believe many of the breakdown of rides (not just at KI) are due to numerous safety measures being put into place. The more sensors/ prox switches, the more opportunity for rides to go down. We use many sensors & prox switches in manufacturing and it does take a good while for things to "hum" consistently. To have a ride get to the point that all the sesnors/ prox switches are humming together seems like it wouldn't be difficult but with: weather changes, constant vibrations & "fixing" vs. "replacing" due to lack of resources (manpower OR equipment) some patience may be needed on our part.

  8. I visited CGA about 20 years ago. My first, and only, time (so far) seeing the park in person. I knew that it was surrounded by corporate buildings, but I was still shocked at just how shoe-horned it was. It is literally surrounded on 3 sides by an office park, and then a residential area on the other. It was obvious then that the park had no where to grow. Frankly, its a wonder this hasn't happened sooner. Its always fought battle after battle due to its location - especially with the 49'ers stadium adjacent. I hate to see the loss of a long-standing park, but can also understand how it makes financial sense. That land is like sitting on gold. I cant imagine that the 49'ers will not have some say as to how much developing the new land owners can do... they share the parking lot with PGA. P.S. - Count me on the side of not wanting any cast-off rides from CGA relocated to KI. I'd rather see them go to other parks. That having been said - send their flyers to Carowinds, and bring our Eagles back. Now THAT would make me happy.

  10. There are 4 Cedar Fair parks that haven’t received a coaster since the late 2000’s that would be more suitable candidates than us for a potentially relocated single rail.

  11. Money was what drove this decision. They paid 150 million for it 3 years ago. Now selling it for 310 million. Even if you deduct the inflation out of the sales price, it's a very healthy return. Your reasons have plauged them for years and they knew these going into the purchase of the land., kind of like a nagging headache. I would imagine they had a pro and con list (also California being generally notoriously over regulated) and when a deal was offered at the price it was, they jumped to take the money and run.

  12. I see two big things with the park that could have played a part in this decision - they have no room for expansion and the parking lots in the area are shared with Levi's Stadium (home of the San Francisco 49ers), so they have to close when the 49ers have a home game (and possibly whenever there's another event at the stadium). There may not be much that CF can do with the park, and that's prime real estate there.

  13. And I see KI acquiring some of CGAs flats. Possibly Tiki Twirl, Centrifuge, Delirium, Orbit, and fingers crossed Delta Flyer/Eagle's Flight Sky Ride

  15. Another thing Mike said at Coasterstock is they are learning about the concert business. Perhaps, they will also ask the bands that play for feedback on what necessary improvements should be made to the theater to make it better and draw more crowds.

  16. I wish they had a better lineup of artists. Sadly, I don't see any of these acts pulling in decent crowds.

  17. I just caught up on this thread after seeing the headline on Screamscape re: the wheel incident. That talk of this being the end for The Bat scared me. That's one of my favorite rides in the park; I've been riding it since I was a kid! Also, it's one of the only remaining parts of Adventure Village (Skyflyer being the other one), so losing that piece of history would be unfortunate, to say the least. Though some complain about the long walk, I enjoy The Bat's secluded location and the foliage surrounding the ride. Though Orion is faster, cooler and newer, The Bat (fka Top Gun) will always have a place in my heart,

  18. I just read this, just came out a few minutes ago! Cedar Fair to close California’s Great America in up to 11 years! What is everyone’s thoughts? This is very unexpected. https://markets.financialcontent.com/stocks/article/bizwire-2022-6-27-cedar-fair-capitalizes-on-opportunity-to-sell-its-land-at-californias-great-america-amusement-park#:~:text=Cedar Fair%2C L.P. 19. This really sucks. With (soon to be) two parks closed under Cedar Fair's ownership perhaps it's time to add a wrecking ball to their corporate logo. My heart goes out to the people of the bay area. Clevelanders know your pain.

  20. This is indeed sad for those in the area that love the park, however... if we did get any rides from this, I vote for Railblazer, Psycho Mouse and/or Survivor (aka Tiki Twirl). However, Railblazer would be a perfect fit at Michigan's Adventure, and would give me another reason to make the trek up there someday (haven't ridden Thunderhawk yet). Also, DT and Delirium look cool, but we have similar rides. I just hope that when it comes time to close and relocate things that the rides are handed out wisely to CF parks that really need them.

  21. The last year Cedar Fair published revenue and profit graphs which showed the individual parks in relation to each other was back in 2015 or 2016. But at the time CGA was middle of the chain for revenue, but either last or next to last in profitability. It was basically making around the same amount of money as Michigan's Adventure. Which is actually a huge improvement, a few years before that the park was dead last for profitability and it was not even close. The park is incredibly expensive to operate. I suspect Cedar Fair decided that the cost of continuing to invest is just not worth the returns they are getting. Especially when they are offered enough money to justify closing the park. At this point I am left wondering, when will the park close? I cannot see it being operated for another 11 years, it might be possible due to the lease but its up to 11 years, not that it will be 11 years, frankly I give it 2 or 3 years unless it sees a huge uptick in attendance due to the pending closure. What will move? I would love to see the Sky Ride move, shoot that would be an amazing addition to Kings Island, but its so old I wonder if Cedar Fair will move it. Old coasters like Demon, Woodstock Express, and Grizzly just seem like they will be scrapped. B&M coasters will likely be moved, so Flight Deck and Patriot. The only other coaster that I am pretty sure that will be moved is RailBlazer. Psycho Mouse might be moved, might be sold, but I do not think it will be scrapped. Gold Striker is a huge question mark, but I could see it being moved, its a lot of work to move a wood coaster but its pretty new and a very good layout.

  23. This is one of the great fears when a company owns multiple parks and “your” park is not the crown jewel park. many on here stated CF would need money in the next few years. What’s next? Look at all the fun we are having

  24. 3 calendar years. This year, then next will be its last l, followed by removals. That’s my guess.

  25. Not going to lie, I just lost a lot of respect for Cedar Fair. I know, I know, it is a business first and foremost, but this news is in stark contrast to one of their 2018 earnings reports when they mentioned that Cedar Point, Canada’s Wonderland, Carowinds, and California’s Great America were their parks of focus.

  26. My guess is they probably will relocate some of them, that’s what happened with Geauga Lake.

  27. I've found the accuracy to improve as the season progresses. Early in the season, most of the times shown were double what they were in reality. And yeah, apparently crowds were super light on Sunday. I'm planning to head there Wednesday hoping the heat thins out the crowds.

  28. ^And yet in the past 10 years, people built $500,000 homes just off the fireworks launch site lol. Sure some have no interest, but others do!

  32. Hey all, in honor of the parks 50th I put together a video about my favorite former attractions at the park (that I experienced). Not necessarily an ordered list of what the best former rides were, more like my favorites. Would love to hear what you think! Also would love to see your top 5 lists as well. https://youtu.be/jdPyGcFm2D4

  33. New for 2022, expanded bike rack storage! In all seriousness, did Kings Island say at one point that they were going to be doing parking lot improvements in phases over the next few years? My guess is that they are working to clean that area up in general because of the concerts and that area getting more foot traffic after the toll booths were moved. The markings are probably for digging for new drainage systems and new pavement. 50 years of parking lot run off has definitely taken a toll on that area. The area closest to the park entrance is also kind of unsightly with old Columbia Road just disintegrating away down there. Probably time to do something with it after 50 years!

  34. Guys, we've been riding coasters wrong the whole time. We must ride with our eyes open according to a few boys I rode with on Orion.

  39. I would send Railblazer to WOF and Patriot to MI for 2 and 3. I love the idea of us getting the Wild Mouse. I would love to see them put it into the Crypt building and then it could run all season long. Gold Striker would also be great at Carowinds. It is also good to see you back.

  40. Patriot is so old, I can't imagine it being worth moving. Maybe they send the trains to Carowinds to convert Vortex. Flight Deck is also old, but also a better ride. Can it get much more life? Keep in mind that relocating a ride isn't cheap. Would love to see Railblazer go to MI or maybe DP/WOF/VF. Gold Striker is probably doomed, though at least it gives something for guests to ride as the other rides get removed? Seems like all the parks but CP and KI have either a wild mouse or a single-car spinning coaster. So maybe we get Psycho Mouse? ...Think the bayern kurve would fit in the slingshot spot?

  41. The way I see it Flight Deck to Valley Fair Railblazer to Worlds of Fun or Michigan’s Adventure (both parks could use a sit down looper but which gets which is a toss up) Patriot to Worlds of Fun or Michigan’s Adventure (same argument as stated above) Psycho Mouse to KI? We don’t have a wild mouse Gold Striker to Dorney? (If they can relocate it of course)

  42. The reason the park had such low profitability was mostly due to the lease which cost 10 million a year.

  43. Not really, maybe a bit for a Monday, but still, that's pretty bad for a ride with long dispatch intervals. Dispatches have been slow overall with at least one person training at nearly all the bigger rides.

  44. Tragic, my heart goes out to all those who love and enjoy CGA. I still Believe this park has a lot of potential but I think the pandemic and potential recession are what have done this park in.

  45. For some reason Beast has been dispatching half empty trains when it has a 40+ minute wait.

  46. Michigan's adventure has joined the chat MA: Can I have something from CGA pretty please? CF: Sure, just close your eyes and wait until I tell you to open them. MA: Okay! CF: Actually just gives them even more new trash and than normal.

  47. ^+1 above!!! As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the sensors are new to The Beast and additional ones and other items were added, so yes this is "ho-hum oops stuff breaks it's all new"....and it takes awhile for everything to settle out as @Browntggrr excellently explains based on his experiences with these sensors in a manufacturing setting, which would be easier than in a setting on a roller coaster exposed to 24/7 weather and operating conditions...

  48. Lots of fans here and I hope you can put up with me being a critic. It's for the good of all I'm at KI 2x a week since days started. I'd say 50% of the time Beast is down. We'd like to be safe... yes of course. From my limited attendance, I'd say Beast was down 30+ times since starting the daytime season. Here's some options to consider - the same thing broke 30x... sensors, wires, brakes, whatever. But same thing 30x - 30 different things have broken From an controls engineering standpoint, this is nuts. If it's the same thing over and over then it's a no-brainer to fix it. If it's different things breaking each time then why the heck didn't we figure this out two months ago. Would like to hear someone "make lemonade" out of these lemons. But IMO it's a bit unacceptable for a [former] main attraction to be this unreliable. Even if it's redundant systems disagreeing. Plz forgive my criticism but this isn't ho-hum oops stuff breaks it's all new
