Let me tell you about my buddy from the preschool I volunteer at, his name is Buddy*. Buddy has had a heart transplant and has since started to reject it. He is on immunity blocking drugs and the common cold could kill him. Buddy has been isolated with his mother as he can't even risk having a family member expose him, which means the last time he hugged his father or sisters was early March. We don't get vaccines or wear a mask for ourselves, we wear a mask and get vaccinated for Buddy and everyone else like him who want to be safe but can't and are counting on us to help keep them safe. I support your right to not get vaccinated, but if you choose to not take others health seriously, then please stay home to help keep those of us safe who are trying and doing our part.

It's not a matter of opinion. It's literally scientific and medical fact. Not to mention the fewer people that vaccinate, the less good a vaccination does. So should we take that to mean you also have zero concern about the health/immunity of others, as well?

And this is why we will all be wearing masks again next summer at KI.

If the employees can do it, you can do it for them. They don't have the luxury of just walking to a specified area/back to their cars/away from others to take theirs off. End of story.

Yes, they lost a lot of company picnics when they decided to remove the rides. I still work down there doing some scheduling and assisting with things here and there. The rides side is currently very sad. All the ride pads are still there, just without any fencing in place. Storybook Pedal boats are still there, and open Friday, Saturday and Sundays. At the time the rides were removed, I heard a number that they had projected Group Sales to decrease by. I thought at the time, and still think that the number was overly optimistic. As Ryan said, most companies don`t want to book a company outing to just a pool. Obviously we will never get a true comparison because of COVID. The decision to remove the rides apparently came from ownership. I was certainly blind sided by the news when it was announced. In fact, the main reason they started adding rides back in the early 1990s was to increase the group sales business. That portion had tailed off in recent years compared to when I started at Coney in 2002. They have done some very silly things over the years, that if I owned/was in charge of the place I would not have done. For example, they came close to installing a Gravity Group wooden coaster way back in 2012. They decided the price was too high. You have to spend money to make money. It would have been a great ride. The ride would not have taken up parking spots under most circumstances. The station would have been where Eurobungy was located, with the lift heading out towards Gate 2, right along Lake Como. The ride would have turned, running parallel to Kellogg, right along the shore of Lake Como. The only time the park uses the grass between Kellogg and Lake Como is for sold out shows, or if they want to park people there instead of parking them in the West lot. Yes, they may have lost some spots for the coaster and its turn around for peak capacity events (and they would have had to find a new location to launch the July 3 fireworks), but it would have been a great ride. Some of the later ride installs were questionable. Como Cruisers, battery powered boats that cannot run if they get wet! Wipeout was an intense ride, but it didn`t really fit the target demographic of Coney of kids and families. Same goes for Topspin (which was a great ride, and I actually preferred it to Delirium), but it was did not appeal to families. I think had Coney received the coaster, and added things like a Flying Scooter ride, and a Zephyr type ride, things would be drastically different. My hope, and it is just that, that Coney can hold on a couple more years, and that the ownership decides to add rides back again. Or current ownership sells to someone that will be a good steward to the park and start to add rides back in.

Sorry, but this is absolutely absurd and socially irresponsible. There's literally no evidence that "immunity" even exists with this strain of coronavirus.

Just want to throw a big warning out there: I cannot stress this enough, please please please treat all associates with respect and DO NOT get mad at associates over enforcing the rules! I'm saying this because yesterday, one of my coworkers at carousel who is a minor was berated to the point where she was being recorded by the person berating her over trying to enforce the mask policy. Luckily the other associate called security right away, but she was stunned to the point of tears. Thank you!

907 people died from covid yesterday, if 907 people died everyday for the next 6 months thats 160,000 lives lost. That’s not a number to just shrug off.

We were at the park yesterday and have ridden Orion already so it was not a priority, but we wanted to explore A72. We did ask the associate who was distributing ride vouchers (even though they were all gone for the day) if she had any previous vouchers that we could use as scrapbook souvenirs. She was nice enough to look through her stash and give us each a mint condition voucher from earlier in the day.

There are two types of wheels, but its more that one is harder for use in colder weather, and one is softer for use in warmer weather. The softer wheels cause more drag so the train losses more speed through the ride but also give a more comfortable ride. On Diamondback you can tell when they swap them since they are different colors.

Park is kinda busy. Lines are fairly long partially due to social distancing and some due to crowds.

The steps to access the reservation portal are somewhat convoluted: Visit the Kings Island online store and go to Menu->Order Lookup Type your e-mail address and phone number to look up your order Click the order that contains the reservation you want to change Press "View your receipt" In the receipt window/tab that pops up, click the blue link above your reservation time(s) labeled "Manage Reservation" The online store opens up with options to reschedule your reservation The reservation portal currently doesn't allow you to cancel a reservation outright, but you can change it as many times as you want to.

I don’t think that is correct. I know someone who was involved in company picnics there and they said a ton of companies backed out with the announcement that the rides would be removed. I agree with what was said above- the appeal isn’t the same for things like company picnics. I’m not saying 2020 is their last year but I would still encourage you to enjoy it while you can.

It will be released this summer. The publisher has the final copy and they’re proofreading it right now! Unfortunately, coronavirus resulted in the publisher having a backlog of projects to work through. The wait will be worth it! I can’t wait for you to read it.

Since face coverings are here to stay at Kings Island, we should have a thread to discuss which types of coverings work best and where to find them. As I mentioned in the Coronavirus thread, I bought a few of these $4 packages of cloth masks from Target, which worked well for me at Kings Island over the weekend. They tend to move around when breathing heavily, but I liked that they didn't tug too hard on my ears while staying secure on my face. I'd recommend the adult small/medium size; the large/XL masks are very big. What has everyone else found success with?

They integrated the islands into the cars. They still have their outer edges facing out into the midway, and then they blend into the actual attraction’s lawn.

Good: Ribs at Coney BBQ, Skyline chili dogs, bbq sliders at Brewhouse. Bad: Caesar salad at the Brewhouse was fairly bad and was all crunchy center pieces of lettuce.

And what is wrong with Flight of Fear? Or the GCI that we have? I have nothing but good things to say about the B&M coasters that KI has installed. Remember, that before Cedar Fair took over KI, KI was one of the biggest parks in the country without a B&M coaster.

Hopefully they will move on from b&m, get something fresh. CP has a nice mix of b&m, Intamin, RMC, etc. KI has b&m and lower tier stuff like older vekoma(not the newer), arrow, premier, gci, etc.

Great video. I don't think anyone's upset about how long the break run is. It seems like everyone gets the value of an additional block so they can cycle more trains without needing a midcourse. It's just how high they are that suggests how much momentum the trains have left, that they could have burned off with additional track length. But again, totally understandable that Cedar Fair wouldn't want to give KI the extra money for track length when the normal park-goer doesn't know or care and they'd likely get the same return with or without the longer ride (in a normal, non-covid year, that is). Easy to see it as a missed opportunity to make something truly spectacular, but business is business.

So, it Is plainly stated that if you choose to partake in visiting KI, you assume the risk of being exposed to the virus. If you go to the store, you assume the risk, too. If this person who tested positive was following protocols, s/he was wearing a mask while on duty, which minimizes exposure to others via the expulsion of mucus or saliva. By screening employees, KI probably did the public a favor in getting this person isolated. If there is a reason to release details to people who may have been exposed to him or her, it will be done. They have a fine line to walk because they also have to follow privacy mandates in the workplace, and I am sure that the park medical folks were involved, so there is HIPAA compliance too. It is much more complicated than saying "A male working on Diamondback coaster tested positive for COVID 19 on 7-5-2020. If you rode this attraction between the hours of 10:00 and 19:00 on 7-5, please get tested." There are many layers to this cake.

In terms of a Kings Island associate testing positive, let’s give the park the benefit of the doubt. The employee could have been a maintenance worker, someone in a White Water Canyon outpost, a higher up worker who works in an office, a park sweep worker, or someone who was just starting and tested positive before even working for the first time. In short, the employee could have had like zero contact with other guests and employees, so it may not be a huge concern. Kings Island also has a ton of safety protocols in place, and maybe they are confident that the situation is under control. If the guy was working closely with other people, the park already probably has those employees getting tested and quarantined. If this guy only had contact with other employees who are now quarantined, and he did not have any contact with guests, Kings Island has no reason to believe any guests are at risk and ask them to check for symptoms. That being said, I do wish the park would at least notify us whether or not the employee had any contact with other associates or guests and inform us what guests might be at risk if at any risk. There is a decent chance this employee was isolated from others to begin with or at least just guests, but it would be nice for the park to let us know to be sure.

Nope. And it's negligence. I'll argue that all day long. It's absolutely unacceptable.

I think it would put a lot of visitors minds at ease if they would at least provide the last day the employee worked and the area. They said the area would be closed to the public and employees so they can clean and sanitize. If anyone goes to the park tonight they may be able to figure out what area if it is still closed down for cleaning.

Not required, if you were there and you are concerned, you should get tested.

....that's it? They're not going to tell people where the associate worked, what hours they worked, etc? Sorry, but that's absolute negligence on KI's part.

This is my opinion only: Actually it is not hot or miserable, you just have to get yourself in the mind set that you are wearing your mask to protect your guests, your coworkers and your family. I find it far more bothersome that my mask hides my smile from my guests than anything else. I won’t say which amusement park I work at. My job is just as enjoyable with the mask as it was before pre-covid.

Yeah, this is an interesting point. So many people are like "Oh everything will be fine next year", while simultaneously pretending everything's fine NOW...and it's far, FAR from fine. As a country and as citizens our response to this pandemic has been nothing short of a dumpster fire - we should have this contained by now, and would have if people would display even a modicum of personal responsibility.

You may never go back. Unfortunately, due to so many people completely unwilling to do what it takes to fight a pandemic, we may be in masks in public spaces for years to come. It may be at least 2 years before we have a safe, viable vaccine to fight the spread.

I realize this is an older post, but another reason for the warnings about "not protecting the wearer" is pretty straightforward (other than putting that warning on there as a C.Y.A. to prevent litigation of course). There are three known points of ingress for viruses that spread via respiratory droplets: nose, mouth, and eyes. Masks only cover two of these three, so one point of ingress is still exposed. However, there are only TWO points of egress: mouth and nose. Both of these are covered. So a mask will successfully block particles at all points of egress but only at two of the three points of ingress. For this reason, even the best mask in the world that filters 100% of respiratory droplets can never PERFECTLY protect the wearer, even if they never touch their face. However, this theoretical perfect mask could completely prevent an infected person from spreading the virus. This is one (of many) reasons why in a situation where only one of the two parties is wearing a mask, the virus spreads less easily if the infected party is the one wearing it. Of course, if both parties are wearing even a mask that is just okay and are good about never touching their face without washing their hands first, the odds of any disease spreading between them become astronomically small. Smaller still if they are standing several feet apart.

Banshee is definitely rougher than last year at haunt...could be temp...could be half full trains...could be a small earthquake that only happens when I ride Banshee...I dunno.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I think they're just removing the footers to remove them. I doubt they have anything planned for that site yet since the removal was so sudden. Plus they just spent $30M on Orion and they will need to get a return on that investment before they invest in something big again. I think planning could start next year though. I took some video of the line: There were references to The Bat, Vortex, Skylab. Zodiac, Shooting Star, Tomb Raider, Firehawk, Magnum, Racer, and more.

Orion wasn't the only thing that was added to Kings Island this year. The area where Orion is located, formerly known as Xbase, has now been rethemed and renamed to "AREA72". That would also mean that there might be some easter eggs and small references to rides at Kings Island and other Cedar Fair parks. How many can you find? You can even take pictures of them. While I personally don’t consider myself an enthusiast I enjoy watching YouTube videos of bloggers/ videographers filming parks on YouTube. I really like channels like coasterbob which have really nice high quality shots. I don’t watch too many enthusiasts videos I find them to be really annoying and entitled. (Every ride must be RMC or intamin or it sucks). Or they’re a kid. there’s two blogging style YouTubers I like watching for parks and that’s the timtracker: He’s very g.p about parks but in a good way. Fun entertaining and just all around has a good time. Doesn’t complain a lot which I like. and eltororyan: ryans about as much of an enthusiast as it gets but his recent more documentary style videos covering problematic roller coasters are well researched and cool. what theme park related YouTube channels do you all watch and why?

Personally, I'm hoping more parks relax reservation restrictions on weekdays. As it stands now, an impromptu visit to KI on a lightly crowded weekday is impossible if I have two future visits scheduled already.

The four the roll together are the most prominent ones at KI: Coaster Studios, Shawn Flaharty, Ohio Valley Coasters, and Thrills United. They cover a wide scope of quality. First, shout out to Flaharty. He doesn't do a ton of editing on his videos, but if you want to see media day from 1990 at Darian Lake, that's your dude. Coaster Studios is the best of the bunch by a long shot. Supremely edited, well done, good personalities involved, funny, informative, and articulate. Ohio Valley Coasters is the worst. In their defense it's more vlog style. But, for example, in their media day coverage of Candymonium (or Brown Streak, as I will always know it), they said 3 or 4 times that it was a, "really good ride." Without any real details. Thrills United/Coaster Kids is a unique beast. I really like what they do. Forget the videos (which are good), their outreach to kids in stuff is really something to write home about.
