  1. Masks are required at the parks right now. We have hashed out your argument multiple times and there is no need to do it again. At this point in time, if you don't want to wear a mask and think they are useless don't make your reservation. No one is forcing you to go to the park where it's required.

  2. Those Americans faced bullets, cannons, and probable death. All that's being asked of you is to wear a mask.
    8 points
  3. Those masks do not protect the wearer from any virus. Nobody has ever claimed that they do. If you think that the purpose of wearing a mask is to protect you, the wearer, then again, you are demonstrating that you've missed the entire point. They protect the other people around you. They can stop you from expelling droplets. They cannot stop you from touching a contaminated surface and then touching your face, thus, the warning on the box is accurate, but not relevant to the conversation that anybody is actually having. But do go on believing that they don't do anything. You might want to inform all the surgeons of the world that they've been doing their job incorrectly for several decades, though since medical professionals universally wear exactly that style of mask during their procedures.

  4. 1. Not ideal, but it really doesn't render the mask useless as the purpose of a mask is to reduce the travel of respiratory droplets. It doesn't cease being able to do that the instant it's touched. What happens when you touch your mask is that your hands may become contaminated, however, the moment you wash or sanitize your hands, it's effectively as if you never touched your mask at all. 2. Obviously that's not ideal, but it still effectively stops respiratory droplets that exit via the mouth in this situation, and becomes completely effective once again the instant it's placed back above the nose. For sure, doing this reduces a mask's effectiveness, but it doesn't reduce it to zero and it certainly doesn't reduce it permanently. Not even close. 3. This is only relevant for N95 masks, which are only meant to be used in contaminated environments and are meant to protect the wearer, not the individuals around them. Surgical-style or cloth masks are meant to protect others around you. If someone is out and about wearing an N95 mask, they are likely wearing it wrong anyway as they have to be properly fitted and by choosing to wear an N95 mask, they are also demonstrating that they missed the entire point of wearing a mask in public. The purpose of a mask is not to stop the virus from getting through but rather to stop the transmission of respiratory droplets. However, since the virus travels predominately via respiratory droplets, the end result is that stopping the transmission of the droplets almost entirely eliminates transmission of the virus.

  6. Rode in row 6 on the first train this morning and let me say...I cannot wait for my first chance to ride in row 8!

  7. My GP-centric Orion review summary: Very nice, would reride, but probably not this season due to wait times/traffic/world-at-large. Disclaimer: I'm a one park person, but I've got a physics degree and therefore view coasters as giant steel tributes to differential equations -- I love both the ride experience, and the math involved in making the coasters feel that way. Once upon a time I worked in a centrifuge where I had to spin pilots and trainees at high Gs. I've wound up appreciating exactly how G force affects the body. We got to ride it once yesterday ( row 4 ) -- going into the ride, I wasn't terribly thrilled about the idea, but my 14 yr old has been obsessing about it since the original announcement and the CGI-rendered POV. Lift hill: Probably the best moment for me was as soon as we're out of the station and going up, my 14 year old old starts mumbling "what have i done why did i think this was a good idea". I admit, I laughed more than I probably should have as a parent. Drop: Wow, that was a heck of a thing. Definitely a great sensation of falling, and it's angled just enough that you have, for a brief glorious moment, that bit of sensory disassociation where you forget you're strapped into a chair until the drop starts bottoming out and you settle back in ever so slight and realize "oh hey, there's the train, forgot about it for a millisecond, and I'm not actually falling 300 feet into landscaping where the grass hasn't filled in." Great feeling, A+, amazing view as you have the momentary sensation of impending gravitationally induced doom. First hill/'wave turn' : Nice mix of forces, should be really fun when they get back to running full trains. Looking to my left to watch my kid's face go from anguish to OH YEAH THIS IS WHY WE DO THIS was also good. The Turnaround: The banked turn, nice mix of forces, and exiting low to the ground with that slight left bank as you head into the next small airtime hill? Perfection. Airtime hill coming out of the turnaround: Oh, yeahhhhhhhhhh. That was awesome. Airtime hill with the trim: I'm going to be a contrarian here and say that I think the trim hits perfectly, and scrubs enough velocity from the train to really throw riders forward/up just slightly enough to *ensure* maximum airtime while maintaining a GP-reasonable speed as you head into 'Orion's Belt'. People are already commenting that they were on the borderline of greying out during the helix, and I think that's just about where they'd want to keep the ride. ( My kid's assessment of the trim: "The trim is Orion's way of getting your attention -- it's the ride telling you that you will FLOAT AND PAY RESPECTS" ) Coming out of the helix under the headchopper-ish element? Nice. Last full hill before the popup into the brakes? Felt great, and transitioned nicely into the final popup into the brakes, at which point my son's assessment of "Well, *that* just happened" was never more apt. We'll re-ride it when we can -- we have reservations this coming Monday, but don't plan to return to the park till late August this season, if at all. Wife wants to get a few rides on Mystic Timbers, and I'd like a ride on Banshee -- so we have to play swap-the-kid-that-only-rides-flat-rides.

  8. I found this on Reddit, and I think it is a great (and funny) mini-show. Have any of you seen it this season at Kings Island? Stuff like this actually really adds to the experience during COVID-19!

  10. No, by @CedarIslander 's logic people die wearing seat belts so they are totally not effective and everyone should not wear them... /facepalm.

  13. Got 6 or 7 rides today. Good coaster. First drop was great. Speed hill and airtime hill are good. Probably not in my top 10 or 20. It looks awesome though. Seeing the turnaround and first hill from other coasters is nice. Row 2 on first ride of the day had that rattle sound a lot. Didn't notice it so much later in the day. Looking forward to a few night rides tomorrow. By no means is it a bad ride. I just don't think it's necessarily a destination coaster like SteVe, Fury, Voyage, El Toro and some others. Great for the park. People will like it and you can cycle a ton of people quickly. And it's B&M so should always be running.

  14. Well, after a long absence from here, I can say that I got to ride Orion! It was my 260th coaster ridden and it was a good choice. I went with a group of friends, including some who were there during the first riders event. I will give my review, element by element and my/friends thoughts on the ride. I got to ride it 4x, 2 in the back and 2x front. (3x left edge, 1x right edge) 1. Drop: Like every B&M giga, fantastic drop that felt like it went on forever. I must say though, the drop does not look like 85 degrees, looks more like 80 or so. 2. Banked turn: People call this a "wave turn" and well... it's not. It is a fun element but as expected, no sideways airtime at all. I did like that leaning/hanging feeling but I did not float out of my seat. 3. Turn around: No, this is not a reverse treble clef. You do get a ever so slight float out of your seat, but it's not super noticeable. Forces are okay but again nothing special. 4. Speed-hill: What a beaut. it gives strong flojector airtime, but not as strong as Leviathan's speed hill. I love how sustained it is though and is the highlight of the ride. 5. Airtime hill: Again, good and mildly strong airtime, but F*** that trim hit hard as hell on our rides. 6. Helix: Forceful at first, then meh. I like the headchoper at the end though. 7. Final turn: I was expecting a pop of air from the transition and I was right on this, it's like a smaller treble clef of Fury 325, great airtime. 8. Break run: Small pop of air, as expected into the brake run. Overall thoughts: Orion is a world class coaster, period. People who say it's trash are jealous. With that said, no it is not better than Fury 325, SteVe or even Leviathan. I know K.I fanboys like to hype things up (no offense) but to say it's better than Fury 325, steVe, or Leviathan is a stretch. I do prefer it over MF though. But coming off the ride and hearing people say that was pretty hilarious not gonna lie. I understand it's all hype but man, it reminds me of when Diamondback opened and it was "ejector on every hill, best coaster on earth" and it was a middle tier hyper. Anyways, I like the pacing, it's about 1 second longer than Levi (with the recent modifications, Levi is running much faster) and again, solid ride. Other thoughts: I was disappointed with the banked turn, even though I knew there wouldn't be airtime on it, just so much potential wasted there. Had it been in a straight line, there would have been airtime for sure. The speed hill was my highlight, although Leviathan gets an edge on it for stronger airtime + how you're also out of your seat while turning vs just straight. Airtime hill was great as well, but that trim hit way too hard. But if there's one thing I learned about B&M giga's. by next year the trim won't be as harsh. My friends thoughts: I was in a group of 6, but we split up in groups of 3. Others got more rides than me as well. They all agreed Orion is a fun world class coaster but in terms of the B&M giga's, Fury and Levi are better. One of my friends said Levi and Orion are a 1A/1B type ranking, others (including me) have a solid 1-2-3. Final score: I'd give Orion 8/10. Solid coaster, great fit for the park.

  17. One quick and simple question: If I am wearing a mask and I cough or sneeze, do you think more or less particles will eject from my mouth and nose into the air?

  18. Beast is a bit smoother when one rides in the 2nd row of each car, aka, the non-wheel seats. I've ridden as far back as the 2nd to last row since that qualifies and got good rides on it.

  20. I think it's exactly what you would expect. It's just fine. Fury is the perfect layout for this style of coaster. Orion reminds me of Goliath (RMC at SFGAm) because it's just a great drop and a handful of giant elements. The wave turn had so much potential and it doesn't do anything. The big turnout doesn't make an impression, then speed hill is eh, and the airtime hill will forever be criticized about the trim. The helix was fun, and was not intense as advertised. The final airtime hill was probably the best outside of the first drop. I hope another rider or two will change my mind but it's a solid ride but nothing close to Fury. Top 10 in no order: Steel Vengeance, Maverick, DoDoDonpa, Hakugei, Outlaw Run, Fury, Scooby's Spooky Coaster, Skyrush, Phoenix, I305

  21. Had my first 3 rides on Orion today. First was just after open, back row. Trim crushed us on the big hill, but it was a great start overall. Second ride at 415pm was also back row, much better. Really impressed from start to finish. Final ride at about 830, front row. Fun, very fast. I do prefer Leviathan and certainly Fury's front row ride. I live about 90 minutes from Leviathan so we ride it a lot. Overall I think I rate Orion above Leviathan, but certainly not above Fury. Carowinds is still home to the King of the Gigas, but Orion is no slouch. Can't wait to (hopefully) get full train rides on it next year. The crew today was awesome, by the way. They were flying with dispatches on non-cleaning cycles, it was outstanding. Kudos to Don and the whole team for a great job with the entire ride experience. The theming is great, the coaster looks amazing and rides so well. Fantastic addition to the park IMO.

  22. I don’t like the new practice of closing the lines before 10:00. It is annoying when they suddenly decide to close the ride before closing time, and you aren’t allowed to ride. They closed The Beast’s line off around 9:40 today instead of at 10:00, and they also closed Orion’s line off early.

  23. I listened to a ride op on WindSeeker drone on and on about how Orion is subpar and basically a hyper, only 287ft, etc. Getting a little old at this point.

  24. And that's exactly how you manage like an adult and get to have fun. Who knows what you might experience at a slower pace that you might miss going full bore to do as much as possible. sometimes it's good stop and smell the flowers so to speak.

  25. My wife, boys, and I had rows 7 and 8 this morning. Whoa buddy!!! That drop was great!! I have to stay that I enjoyed Orion more than Fury, not sure about Millennium Force. Gonna take a few more rides to decide. Honestly, I didn’t mind Orion being shorter than Fury. I would rather a ride be shorter and snappier than longer and meandering.

  29. No (I touch the straps only), No (and I have a nose band to form it to my nostril) and finally No. My wife is a nurse so she has custom sewn our masks. I have about 10 of them for different occasions and I also to allow washing of them after wearing. With her working in a hospital I make sure to wear it out in public to protect others. Having a gator mask is better than nothing. It's the "spittle" this is the biggest issue. Some are adamant about wearing a seat belt. Here is an article on how to properly wear one: https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-wear-your-seat-belt-properly-by-jason-unrau. Method 1 step 6 is a rather exact example. "Step 6: Adjust the shoulder belt to your body. Adjust the seat belt every time you wear your seat belt to make sure it fits you well. The ideal placement for the shoulder belt is to have it cross your body at your collarbone. Adjust the seat belt height on the pillar if there is an adjustment in your vehicle. Alternatively, if you have a seat height adjustment, you can raise or lower the seat height to compensate for the seat belt location on your shoulder." I admit I've not done this each time, but wearing the belt is better than not wearing it at all and still saves lives. (Some people probably didn't even know that adjustment was there). Even if someone is wearing a mask improperly they should be given credit for trying. Instead of telling others what to and not to do, maybe informing the public of proper mask wearing is a much more fruitful venture.

  30. I rest my case. If you still feel that masks will reduce the spread of Covid, after the manufacturer tells you it won't, you're not worth my time. Good day, all. Go celebrate the freedoms that millions of Americans died protecting.

  32. It's already good. I think a full train's mass will be really noticeable in the wave turn/turn around --- but I also think it'll allow them to dial that trim in a bit more precisely for best effect. I think the biggest improvement you'll see with full trains, though? The ability for a group of 3 or 4 to ride in a single row, share 52-ish glorious seconds drop-to-brakes of quality air time, hit the final brakes, and then turn and look at each other with the shared realization of what just happened, followed shortly thereafter by wondering how long it'd be before they can ride again or if they should just proceed Directly To Funnelcakes.

  37. Kings Island is the biggest park without a modern entry plaza, I would love to see them do a B&M flyer worked into a new entry plaza like Fury 325 at Carowinds or GateKeeper at Cedar Point. Fly right by the guests entering like Manta at Sea World. As far as what should go in Vortex's old space I would love to see something similar to Mystery Mine at Dollywood, we need a good themed indoor/outdoor coaster that is just plain fun.

  38. This is interesting. I do think the park will add a new rollercoaster sooner than some are thinking because after COVID-19, they are going to need to bring back lost guests. It will probably take a large addition in 3-4 years to bring back these guests.

  39. Not really about The Vortex area, but here is an interesting statement from a recent article about something Chad said. Doesn't mean that we are definitely getting our next big attraction in 3-4 years, but I find this statement interesting. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.daytondailynews.com/news/local/kings-island-opening-will-finally-debut-the-planet-seventh-giga-coaster-orion/bdZjVYXYvMvGLmdRISozaK/amp.html

  41. Shameless self plug warning. I started off on this project as just a generic Mack Impulse. Trying to come up with a name along the way, I decided to name it Flight Commander after the KI Flat (it's just a dope name, too). After I had the name, I wished that something like this would take Vortex's land. I didn't follow Vortex's terrain; nor did I try to fit it into the same plot size since it was an after thought. Nonetheless..... Enjoy?

  47. What if they filled in the whole Vortex plot with water. Make up for all the water that rivertown has lost over the years. And it would be pretty from the Coney Island side too. Put a flat where Vortex’s station was (s&S power swing over the water’s edge). And the water would butt up against The Beast lift hill turn-around and bring back some of the vibe from it’s original over-water construction. Eventually use the rivertown arcade or a new rivertown building next to the Larosas as the station house for a big RMC topper track woodie around the perimeter and over the water with a finale batwing where Vortex’s old batwing was, diving under the water.
