Well, the last bent was lifted in place today!

We have a ride that does inversions with lap bars currently.

I don't know if we do or not, but I don't plan to be the one to spoil it. I couldn't resist, I'll be there!

Was this actually that big of a rumor? Oh well--at any rate: I agree that an inversion wasn't likely. GCI has stated before that they'll do inversions if a park wants them, but based on what has been shown and/or leaked, there just wasn't any room in the layout for one. The biggest portion of the shed is basically confirmed at this point to contain That being said, there are several wooden AND steel coasters that do inversions with just lap bars--no overhead harnesses at all. Examples include Mind Bender and Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia, Iron Rattler at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Hades 360 at Mt. Olympus, and many others.

After booking at Camp Wilderness I remember how much I miss the campground. So wish KI had their own lodging options....I understand why they don't but I really, really wish they would. Not all passholders live in Cincinnati.

So basically every B&M since Banshee that's been installed at a CF park has failed miserably at raising your heart rate even a little........which is one ride, Valravn. Seems like a broad statement to make based off such a small sample size.

For those who may not have seen it yet, The Vortex sign has been refurbished and polished off for the rides 30th anniversary. I think it looks very nice but what is your opinion on it? Picture courtesy of Kings Island's Instagram page.

Heart lining techniques are a big part of why you can do lap bars on looping coasters. Heart lining uses track transitions which center the lateral rotations (such as entering a banked curve or a heart line roll) around the rider at the point of the rider's heart. This decreases head movement, which, allows for more open restraints. Decreasing head movement is pretty important, its why a lot of early looping coasters have restricting head movement in utilizing OTSR's. Notice how the seats all nearly line up together with the cars creating a circle around them. Every modern manufacture of inverting coasters (sans Vekoma) and even GCI and Gravity Group use this technique. Its also why you can now use lap bars on looping coasters. In SOB's and Schwarzkopf's cases (almost all of Schwarzkopf's looping coasters use lap bars and those were built as early as the 70's), vertical loops don't create lateral forces.

I'd love to do this! I may have to attend Wizard of Oz practice at my school on April 13th as it is just one week before our opening night, but either way I'll raise money for a good cause should I participate!

I agree.....front row really anywhere at night is amazing. Outside just puts the cherry on top. My first ride on it was front row, outside seat at night when it was close to bare minimum temps. AHHH-MAZING. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Glad Apex hasn't dropped the park. Haven't made the trip in a few seasons, but IB is another great Indiana park...Nice atmosphere, especially with alot of the attractions placed over water, and it never feels busy so you can relax and spend the day however you want. Not to mention some great coasters like Cornball and Steel Hawg. I'll have to try and make it back there this season....just not sure if the pass will be worth it if admission is cheaper (single day prices not up yet)

I'd even argue that they had a winner on their hands with Valravn. I detested Gatekeeper, but it seems like I'm in the minority compared to everyday patrons. Will we see Intamin return? Sure. All they have to have is a product that the public wants and they'll go back to them. They seem to have their issues so they aren't much of a go-to, but they do make a heck of a ride. Never say never.

B&M, Mack and Premier can hit 200 ft with LIM's. I doubt its Intamin.

Okay, so I admit that I did not follow the speculation leading up to the announcement very well, and I've done an even worse job of following the construction progress. Is it wrong to be as active as I am on this site and still not be addicted to the park? Anyway, I digress. The point is that these photos are the first time that I have truly gotten a good understanding of exactly how Mystic Timbers is laid out and how it fits in with the surrounding area. I did not realize how close the back end of it comes to the train tracks and train storage shed. To borrow a phrase from silver2005, good googly moogly. The train ride will never be the same again.

An employee of GCI made a blog post about what was in the shed a few months ago. Spoiler alert, it contains the transfer and storage track for the trains.

Or working at the park, going to coaster stock, then back working. I think energy drinks will be my go to for that weekend lol.

I've kinda been thinking about this one for a few days. And I just really can't think of many regrets when it comes to the park itself. Lots of i wishes? Yea. I wish I could have rode King Cobra more than I did (5 or 6). Wish I could've rode SOB. Really enjoyed KCKC. Love to take a couple more laps on it. Inevitably more changes will happen that will change my wish list one way or another. Time will tell. I can't complain about much though. Met some great folks, great times. Very much look forward to the future. The only real regret I have is not getting to take mom as I got older. When I was finally in a position in my life where I could have made that happen, it wasn't possible. She was the person who started the amusement park/coaster love I have. As much as she loved doin that for me 30+ years ago, it would have been nice to do it once for her. Nothing last forever.

Just know that Coaster Stock more than likely will make you exhausted! It's such a great/fun event. It's a struggle getting getting rested during that weekend!

The fact that the shed is right after a set of brakes with only enough downward track to let gravity gradually roll trains into the shed, not to mention right before a sharp curve into the station should have been evidence enough to rule out an inversion.

And even coasters that do inversions without intense vertical Gs can have only lapbars.. I thought we were done with this misconception after the 21st century hit lol

I'm sorry but it seems like you're criticizing the Cedar Fair chain as a whole for it's choice in B&M installations yet you praise B&M's from non-CF parks. Everyone has their own opinion on coasters but your's seem extremely bland and lack any explanation. Therefore saying a ride sucks and not saying anything else to back up your claim is an invalid statement.

Sorry, its mid pack coaster at best, I apologize for not being a diver fanboy. Rougaru sucked as Mantis and isnt too much better as a floorless, Gatekeeper is ok but was PRE Banshee, and as I said I havent ridden Fury. I enjoy Thunderbird, for whoever mentioned it, but that is not a CF installation.

So I have to ask - how have these been the past few years? I remember hearing a lot of complaints when they were initially started, but have they gotten any better? Do they still do them in the (smaller?) new wave pool or do they utilize the large one? Love that they brought back this classic 1970's concept. RIP Astroworld.

Yes, there's only two patches and the first drop area where it's evident that a group of trees have been removed! Hopefully those will grow back in time, but I'm sure we could get used to simple grass too like with Banshee.

Dont expect much.... remember how much they did for Beasts 30th. Using that as an indicator, the sign you are looking at is about it.

With Intamin's reliability, I highly doubt that Cedar Fair would bring in an Intamin to a California park. I'm thinking they wouldn't with how California is extremely difficult on rides inspections. I also think if Cedar Fair were to do a project with Intamin again, it'd be a much bigger scale than an impulse coaster.

You'd think it would get some more love for it's 30! Anything 30 years old is nostalgia, and nostalgia SELLS! I expect to see more 1987 themed Votex logos on shirts, etc, this season.

I didn't realize how much a size difference there was between the first 2 hills and the rest of the layout. This thing will have the afterburners turned up to 11. Oh, and this is longer than Thunderhead. WWC should be a more interesting experience as well, not only in anticipating water cannons, but with this thing flying all around.

And it wasn't really well maintained either.

I think that would be awesome. An LED chaser light package that changes colors would look awesome with WindSeekers package.

I really want to see the return of Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular. Ever since its been gone the park just seems way more dark and desolate.

1. Finding and riding the Grand Carousel, the very first ride I ever rode at Kings Island. I rode it five times, primarily because my ecstatic eight-year-old self couldn't get over its grand-ness. 2. Vortex, in case you haven't figured out. It was love at first ride... 3. Coney Mall. Gotta love the classic midway! 4. Cuddle Up (the teacups). My mom isn't a big amusement park fan but she loves teacup rides...as we found out when we rode Busch Gardens Williamsburg's teacup ride, the Turkish Delight. I also really would love King Cobra, since I loved Shockwave at Kings Dominion and I miss it. 5. Working at Vortex and WindSeeker this summer!!!!

Marketing did a great job, I am now trying to figure out how to make it over there for a Tuesday night. Anyone else trying to figure the logistics out?

I regret not having ridden SOB, but it was never open when I went before I was an enthusiast. I also regret having not enjoyed IS much more when I was a child. Age gives some good perspective. NOW GET OFF MY LAWN!

I wish I had realized earlier that I could just go to the park alone rather than dragging people along who weren't really into it. Both would end up frustrated, them because they'd feel pressure to ride things they might not like, and me because I didn't feel like I was getting to ride as much as I'd like. This was even before I moved out to California to be with my husband: neither of my long-term boyfriends or any of my family members are what one might call enthusiasts. When I went with my family as a kid I often headed off on my own (and really enjoyed it) but I didn't want to do that with a boyfriend or my husband. I'm angry with myself that it took me 15 years of barely going to parks to realize I could just go by myself. Refusing to go alone prevented me from going to any of the parks while I lived in Cali (outside of a single Disneyland visit, which was a lot of fun). When we moved back about ten years ago, my husband and I got passes to KI one summer and visited a grand total of two times and rode, I think, one ride over both visits. Neither of us were happy. I have enjoyed myself so much since I realized it was ok to go alone, and ride everything I want to my heart's content. It's made me a lot more bearable when I do go to the park with someone, because I can just enjoy being there and being with the person. I am happy to ride as much or little as they want, because I know I can go alone another time and ride whatever. Me going alone has made it so much nicer when my husband and I go together, paradoxically, that we got him a pass again last season and went a handful of times together, and renewed for 2017. Since he doesn't feel pressured anymore, he feels more free to try new things at his own pace, and has even found a couple coasters he truly enjoys, and thinks about wanting to ride when between visits. If I had realized this back in 2005, I could have rode SoB and TR:TR which are my other regrets.

I have two. First and most importantly, I deeply regret not making it to Geauga Lake after the 2005 season. I Loved....LOVED...that park, and financial issues kept me from visiting in 06 or 07. I regret not doing a bit of moving and shaking to make a trip happen. I wish I had known about Geugalaketoday.com before the park closed, because if I had those forums to read, Id have made it happen. That park being gone still gets to me. In regards to KI, if Im going to be perfectly honest, I regret going so often in 2009. The opening of Diamondback had me wrapped around the parks finger, and I ended up going soooooooo often that A)I have become so bored with that ride I cant stand it and B)its one of the reasons that I have the park in a "take it or leave it" category. I regret ignoring my "moderation is key" rule to hobbies. There is also a liiiiiiitttlllee tiiiinnnnnyyy part of me that regrets not riding SOB for the short time it was open in 2009, so I could have at least given it one ride.

My best recommendation for someone going to IB is to just enjoy it for what it is. It has it's own feel compared to Kings Island or any other major park. Check out the Shaffer Queen (sp?), ride as many rides as possible and just enjoy the atmosphere! There are so many interesting little things about the park it's hard to describe.
