I’m shocked, but I can’t say I’m sad to hear this!

Why shocked? I can’t see the cost to re-theme every peanuts attraction, fb, and retail location being any less than the renewal cost. Like someone else pointed out, the fact that they have other theming options and don’t really “need” them might’ve factored into a renegotiated price.

Honestly, I'm okay with this. I feel like at this point, Peanuts has rightfully be engrained into the legacy CF parks and it'd be odd to see them leave. I do hope that there is some integration of Peanuts into the legacy Six Flags parks and the other IPs integrated into the legacy CF Parks.

I was wondering that too maybe have Bugs Bunny as a walkaround character at parks like Cedar Point/Kings Island etch... and Snoopy & other Peanuts characters at Six Flags parks, maybe some merchandising.

I think this is a good move. With all the cuts and other issues they have had this season,  having some consistency with thememing in one area of the park is a good thing. This might have put some parents over the edge if they had rethemed to Loony Tunes or DC characters.

If we loose Snoopy in 2030, I would prefer the kids area be a DC area over Loony Tunes.

So glad they kept Snoopy! I didn’t think it was very likely they were going to get rid of Peanuts after they just added to their kids areas of the CF legacy parks in the last 2-3 years.  I can see them renewing the license with Peanuts after 2030 also, the kids area at KI is well known and I doubt they’ll want to mess that up adding Looney Tunes.

I thought that too back after Nickelodeon Universe opened in 2005, but was surprised when The Peanuts gang took over in 2010.

Tbh it just makes more sense to renew the license right now even with the troubles going on at Six Flags. I am 99% sure that retheming 11 kids areas on a last minute situation would be pretty costly and doesn't make too much sense especially after investing heavily into Snoopy attractions at Carowinds, KI, and Wonderland.

Imo I think what very well could be happening is they decided to extend the license to buy more time evaluating the IPs long term. Then by 2029/2030 when hopefully financials are in a better place, they can make a long term decision and if they choose to axe Snoopy and bring in Looney and/or DC to legacy CF parks they can do it right and not just swap out the signs/give rides some touchups of paint and call it a day.

OR they could decide to keep all the IPs and retheme the Planet Snoopys to DC or Looney Toons (Id prefer DC) and keep all the Camp Snoopys.

I am happy about this decision. I grew up watching Looney Tunes cartoons on Saturday mornings, so I have a special place in my heart for all those characters.

But, I also grew up watching Peanuts too. And my favorite of all time is Snoopy. I have Snoopy stuff integrated in all my coaster souvenirs.

Now that they have secured it for a some time. Let's put a lot more trees and upgrades to Camp Snoopy and make it more of a camp like feel and amazing.

Glad to see they're staying. From an aesthetics standpoint, the Peanuts give off a more clean, consistent vibe rather than how the Looney Toons theming comes off IMHO. Granted I realize some might say that about the Nick characters from the Paramount days and maybe I am biased since I grew up watching Nickelodeon. But having a little bit of that Universal Studios feeling right here in the Midwest was special to me.

My oldest son grew up with Nick, so I was a fan of that for him at the time the kids area was themed to that. Watched many a Nick cartoon with him. Rugrats was the worst though. Kids screaming all the time when I already had that at home...ha! Loved Angry Beavers and Hey Arnold though.

Not shocked at all. They don't want to spend the money on rebranding all the kids areas at 10 parks right now. I was 99% sure they would renew considering that parks are already planning new additions for 2026. If they didn't want to renew peanuts, Kings Island wouldn't be getting a new phantom theater, we'd be getting a new looney tunes bugs Bunny National park. That would be the new addition for next year. If they don't really want to keep Peanuts around long term, they will rebrand after 2030 when they have time to plan and market the switch as a "new" attraction for 2031

I'm very happy to read this.

While both IPs are timeless, Peanuts, to me, seems more "classy".... promotion of calm and patience. Looney Tunes is about violence.

Granted, Lucy always pulls the football from Charlie and Sally makes unwanted advances to Linus, and Snoopy is aloof at times.  But there is usually a good life lesson.

I say this having grown up with the catalog of Looney Tunes and Hannah -Barbera.  So this is totally via an adult lense.

Who doesn't adore a loveable beagle?

Ha ha I get it... I got it set for 2028 still

I wouldn't expect anything new in the crypt until at least 2030 now that The Conjuring is going in there. I would think that they'd want to get at least 5 years out of Conjuring in there before they even think about doing something else there.

I'm not surprised at all. Yes, they have Looney Tunes already, but slapping Bugs and friends on all the Peanuts themed areas/attractions is not at all cheap. New signs, new costumes, significantly more new merchandise (instead of just replenishing existing stock - for instance they'd need to completely clear out and restock the Snoopy store), updating websites and marketing materials... It would be a significant investment. When Cedar Fair switched everything over to Snoopy, they only had 5 parks to deal with and they didn't have much of an option besides just making them generic kids' areas.

I think you’re exactly right on this. No offense to Peanuts, but it’s not exactly the most valuable IP out in the market (although, I’m sure more valuable than the Berenstain Bears would be :)) and the licensor is taking a nice cut on all of the merch sales I’m sure (in addition to the licensing fee SF is paying them), so it probably made sense for both sides to reach a deal that worked for everyone. For Six Flags I’m sure it was a cost comparison issue—was it cheaper to renew or re-theme all of those legacy CF kids areas? Plus, re-theming would have taken a pretty big bite out of an already stretched capital budget over the next few years, whereas I’m assuming licensing costs would be classified as more administrative/legal expenses. (I realize, money spent is money spent, but trust me—those types of classifications matter a lot to the Finance bros :))

That being said, I’m really happy they landed here. Peanuts are a classic, and it would have been a shame for them to lose their park presence and history with the parks (especially KBF).

A bait-n-switch. A legacy CF classic :P

Current Six could never bait and switch because expectations are already so low. It would be impossible for anyone to expect anything other than the bare minimum and even then they surprise me and somehow find ways to go below.

Peanuts has been engrained recently, this is at Kings Island specifically but assume its similar for the KECO parks on their way to Paramount at CF

Peanuts - 2010 to 2025 (30?) - 15-20 years

Nickelodeon - 1995-2010 - 15 years (5 years without the HB stuff)

Hanna Barbara - 1972 - 2005 - 33 years.  (23 years without the Nick stuff)

Glad to see this. I like Looney Tunes, but the innocence of Peanuts has always been a nice fit with the kids' area. And honestly, anything to keep the legacy CF parks from having to appear any more like a Six Flags.

Innocence yes, but if you really pay attention to their personalities, most of them could use a few sessions with a good psychiatrist! :P

I have to wonder what other options they could use that wouldn't be too expensive in the long run and aren't used by other operators. That would mean Sesame Street, Dreamworks, anything from Disney, and Nickelodeon (to an extent) are all out of the question. Thomas the Tank Engine has been removed from most parks its been at, and Six Flags already had that and The Wiggles in most of their parks. It seems the other options (besides Looney Tunes and DC, which would be cheap but "tacky") are to go with a no-IP area or to find another brand that might just be relevant enough.

Peanuts may not be as "dead" of a brand as it was 15 years ago when it was installed at the former Paramount Parks, especially at the Legacy Cedar Fair parks. There are a lot of families that have now grown up with it like others did with Hanna Barbera or Nickelodeon, just not in the same way through watching it on TV.
